Various State Government initiatives to tackle malnutrition

Several State Governments in India have also launched initiatives to address malnutrition within their respective regions. Some of these initiatives include:

  1. Maharashtra: The Maharashtra government has launched the “Poshan Maharashtra” campaign to address malnutrition among children and women. This initiative focuses on improving nutrition awareness, promoting breastfeeding, providing supplementary nutrition, and addressing issues related to sanitation and hygiene.

Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu government has implemented the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) program, which provides nutrition and health services to children under six years of age and their mothers. The state has also introduced the Amma Baby Care Kit, which provides essential items for newborns and aims to improve maternal and child health.
  3. Odisha: The Odisha government has launched the “Sampoorna Poshan” initiative, which aims to reduce malnutrition among children and women. The program includes screening and early identification of malnutrition, the provision of nutritious meals, and nutrition education and counseling.
  4. Gujarat: The Gujarat government has launched the “Bal Amrutam” initiative, which aims to improve the health and nutrition status of children under six years of age. The program includes the provision of nutrition supplements, immunization, and health check-ups.
  5. Madhya Pradesh: The Bal Shakti Yojana provides take-home rations and micronutrient supplements to pregnant and lactating mothers and children under three years of age.
  6. Karnataka: The Karnataka Government has implemented the Ksheera Bhagya scheme, which provides free milk to school children to improve their nutritional status.
